SNCB/NMBS allows electric bicycles on its domestic trains, subject to its bicycle conditions and available space. For a bicycle travelling in the ordinary bike category, plan for a Bike Supplement in addition to your own ticket. Folding-bike carriage follows separate luggage conditions; a folding frame alone does not settle the question.
This guide is for individual travellers on domestic SNCB/NMBS services in Belgium. It helps you plan the fare, station access, boarding and battery arrangements together. International services and other operators require a separate check.
Budget for each direction of travel
The current SNCB Bike Supplement costs:
| Journey timing | Bike Supplement, single journey |
|---|---|
| Off-peak, weekends and public holidays | €3 |
| Weekday peak hours | €5 |
SNCB lists weekday peak periods as 06:01–08:59 and 16:01–17:59. You do not need Train+ to buy the off-peak bike supplement. Check your departure and ticket before paying.

For example, two qualifying off-peak single journeys mean €6 in bicycle supplements for an outward-and-return trip. An off-peak outward journey and a weekday peak-time return mean €8. These are simple fare calculations, not quotes for your passenger tickets or a promise of bicycle space.
Use BikeOnTrain to inspect the journey
SNCB's bicycle travel page links to BikeOnTrain. It can show how to reach the platform, the train's boarding arrangements, the number of bicycle spaces and the location of the relevant carriage. The supplement itself is bought through SNCB's sales channels, not in BikeOnTrain.
There is no bicycle reservation requirement for these domestic services, but carriage depends on space. Ask the train attendant before boarding and follow their instructions about where the bicycle belongs. Treat the planner's capacity information as a planning aid, not a reserved place.

Compare the whole itinerary rather than choosing solely by travel time. A slightly longer connection may give you a more manageable transfer, but check the actual platforms and access information before deciding. Record one later departure you could use if the bike area is full, especially for your return trip.
Check the station names and replacement transport
The Bike Supplement conditions effective 1 July 2026 prohibit loading or unloading bicycles carried under the Bike Supplement at Brussels-Central, Brussels-Congress and Brussels-Chapelle/Kapellekerk. Check the exact station in your itinerary rather than assuming any Brussels stop is suitable.
The same conditions allow only folding bicycles on replacement buses. A disruption can therefore change whether your chosen arrangement works. Look for engineering work or replacement transport on both directions of travel, and obtain confirmation for any uncertain case before setting off.
Keep the battery with the e-bike
SNCB's current conditions require the battery to remain attached in its intended position, to be watertight and switched off. A battery or spare battery must not be carried separately, and charging electric-mobility batteries on board is prohibited.
Charge before departure. Do not remove the battery to make lifting easier; follow the manufacturer's handling instructions.

What changes when the bicycle folds?
The free accompanied-luggage conditions effective 25 March 2026 include electric folding bicycles. Fold before boarding, keep the bike folded throughout the journey and stow it fully within the permitted luggage space without obstructing others.
The general hand-luggage provision is a maximum of three easily carried items totalling 30 kg per person. We found no explicit exemption for a heavy electric folding bicycle in these conditions. Confirm your actual arrangement with SNCB if that limit or the available space is in doubt.
The documents reviewed do not provide a single domestic folded-bike length, width and height limit. Do not import an NS or international-train dimension from a different service. Nor should you assume that a folded bike can simply stand in an aisle because the train looks quiet.
Use the TTGO F7 figures to ask a precise question

TTGO currently lists the F7 Folding E-bike in Off White at 30.7 kg, with folded dimensions of 86 cm long, 45 cm wide and 73 cm high. These are manufacturer specifications, checked on 17 October 2026, not measurements from a train test.
The listed weight is already above the general 30 kg hand-luggage figure before adding a personal bag. We therefore do not advertise the F7 as qualifying for free folded carriage. Give SNCB the actual bicycle weight, dimensions and intended service and ask which arrangement is permitted. This is not a claim that all ordinary e-bikes over 30 kg are banned.
Also assess whether you can manage the bicycle and your belongings at the platform. The F7's folding format changes its storage shape; it does not remove the need to evaluate lifting and transfers. Make that station routine part of the purchase decision.
Keep cross-border connections separate
SNCB International's preparation guidance distinguishes the bicycle arrangements of different international services. Check the actual carrier and train before extending a Belgian trip abroad. A domestic supplement or a domestic folded-luggage arrangement is not proof that the next train accepts the same setup.
For a connection within the Netherlands, our domestic NS folding-bike guide addresses a separate set of conditions. Keep the relevant rules beside each leg of your itinerary rather than combining them into one Europe-wide permission.
Before leaving, confirm the outward and return services, ticket categories, usable stations, battery arrangement and a fallback departure. If your plan depends on an unresolved weight or storage question, settle it with the operator first.
